Ayo Agnes Akinola, Practicum Student
Site Supervisor: Larry Freeney, PhD(cand), LPC
Ayo is currently a graduate student at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas in the Counseling – Marriage, Couples and Family program. A registered nurse, Ayo earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Administration in 2006 from Texas Southern University.
In 2012 Ayo experienced the sudden death of her mother, which sensitized her to the grief process and to the value of Christians grieving “with grace”. Having an extensive career in nursing and formal training in Pastoral Care Ministry, Ayo brings together a wealth of personal and professional experience that can be best summarized by saying, “True joy is found along the way, not at the end of the road.”
Ayo is available to work with individuals, couples, and families in counseling. She is passionate about integrating psychotherapy with spirituality. She has a special interest in developing a well-rounded and holistic wellness for clients, planning and meeting individual clients where they are spiritually, physically, and emotionally, and using psychotherapy with scripture to help clients manage their distorted thought patterns.
Ayo is married and has three adult children. For the past ten years she has volunteered through the Archdiocese with the Chaplain Corps at St. Luke’s Medical Center. She has also been actively involved at both Corpus Christi and St. Philip Neri parishes in Houston.
