Tommy Tellson, MA, MEd, LPC-A, LMFT-A
Supervisor: Chris Stravitsch, DMin, LPC-S, LMFT-S
Tommy is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and Licensed Professional Counselor Associate who earned an M.A. in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling from Sam Houston State University. He completed undergraduate studies at the United States Naval Academy and served in the military for 5 years where he rediscovered his Catholic faith. Following a year discerning the priesthood in a diocesan seminary, Tommy eventually married and began a life of service in the Church. He has served as a catechist, religion teacher, and ministry leader in several parishes across the United States. In 2017, he and his wife went on a year-long mission that took them to Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona. His experience in education led him to earn an M.Ed. in Montessori Studies at Loyola University Maryland as well as complete training in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
Tommy has experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, groups and families with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, pornography addiction, and betrayal trauma. He approaches his cases from a systemic perspective knowing that relationships are extremely important to who we are and how we have been formed. Tommy has completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, by which he uses research-based strategies to help couples successfully manage conflict, empowers couples to dialogue about their worst gridlocked issues in a positive way, and helps them to heal their hurts while deepening their intimacy. Ultimately, Tommy seeks to help individuals, couples, and families cooperate with the abundant grace that God offers us, especially through the Catholic Church and the sacraments.
Outside of counseling, Tommy enjoys spending time with his wife, reading, visiting family, making pilgrimages, and being outdoors. He is a member of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association and he and his wife are parishioners at Mater Dei Catholic Church in Irving, Texas.
